A Tempest In A Teacup?
Today I saw a video response to a video I've posted earlier this week: content aware image resizing. Personally I think it is a bit exaggerated based on the fact that no one actually knows what this product is designated for..

What a joke.. This tool is amazing.. I can't wait for it to be Photoshop! The tool will allow web designers to manipulate an image to serve a purpose. You can see in the original video when the algorithems fail, but up until this point the integrity of a photo isn't lost..
Maybe in the future it will become apart of CSS, and in the CSS markup you can set the boundaries of resizability of an image.. How cool would that be!
(a) tempest in a teacup?
Did you see the results? This is some impressive technology. I've spent 11+ years working in image-related technology. What these guys are doing is complicated. Why is it so hard for you to agree that they've done something novel and impressive?
(b) "no one actually knows what this product is designated for"
Umm. The www started out as a tech demo without a highly specific purpose. So did the semi-conductor. Probably, so did the wheel. The technology has clear merit and solves a number of problems. There's nothing else out there that does this automatically, and that's ground breaking.
(c) "Destroying your artistic intent". Get over it. I could "destroy" your artistic intent with MS Paint. If people are taking your work and "destroying" it without your permission, you have the usual copyright provisions to fall back on. But to slam a tool because it does something that ANY image editing tool does just seems dumb to me.
I'm assuming you were aiming for 5 minutes of fame by saying something obviously controversial and unwarranted.
Hope you enjoyed your moment.
