Facebook Notifier Plus Chat (with Facebook Friends)

Arrington wrote today a lovely post about social.im - An instant messenger that allows you to chat with all your Facebook friends from one IM client. Well, alpha or not I've tested it immediately. Boy, they really mean it when they say: "with ALL your friends" because the minute you sign-in to this little IM client, you see all your friends, if they are online and installed soical.im as well.
BTW, they can see you too..
No button that ask you if you want to see all your friends, nothing on the setting that can help you make a list with Just the friends you choose - Just a default list of everyone who's online.

I'm not sure I like that. I don't want to sound unfriendly but some privacy in social.im would be nice. (being an Alpha, I guess social.im will add some new features soon)

A good alternative is FizzBoost. It's a Facebook notifier with some great features in it - such as:
  • Update status directly in Fizzboost
  • Update Twitter status directly in Fizzboost (also, sync Twitter status with Facebook)
  • Get notifications from Facebook on your Desktop (get only notifications that you want)
  • View friends and their albums
  • Upload photos to existing albums or create new albums
  • Set your desirable RSS from Facebook and read it from your Desktop (your friends statuses for example).

I wrote about all of these features in this post, but now it's even better because the new version includes Instant Chat. Chat is seamlessly integrated into FizzBoost and works much the same as Live Messenger or GTalk. You can see when your Facebook friends are online and start up Instant Chatting. (You choose which friends to add)

Update! I just realized that FizzBoost also allows you to track friend status individually. (you can get these notifications on your desktop)

What you're saying emphasizes the need for a better terminology.
When someone is my "Friend" on Facebook - it doesn't REALLY mean he is my friend...

It is nice, esp. the status updates, yet not enough functionality over RSS feeds from FB or its email alerts to justify another program running

... BTW .. Orly - did you check "Flock" the "Social Web Browser"? I was wondering if it is of any good (but lazy to install and uninstall it :))
