The New Generation of How-To's

Have you also noticed that you use more apps on your phone than ever before? The first app page on my iPhone is simply not enough to contain all the apps I love and use. It happens because at least 50% of my browsing time is from the phone.

And with this usage growth, more useful applications are born. My latest favorite is definitely Snapguide. It has one of the best mobile interfaces on the App Store today, and it easily enables you to share your talent with friends and the Snapguide community (which is growing rapidly). You might think it is anther Pinterest kind of service, but no. Snapguide is the next phase of Pinterest where you are the one that create content and publish it to the world. Original content. Nothing beats that. Moreover, it's a new generation of how-to's, where everyone knows something that can be useful to other people and they actually take the time to create a quick guide to present an idea, recipe, art, craft, or anything that comes in mind. Surely the concept of sharing your knowledge with others is not new, it is just improved.

What's so impressive about Snapguide is that it uses the iPhone to create something meaningful from your daily basis activity without the effort. It is basically adding a documentation layer to our life where people would want to take pictures and videos of something they do in order to teach someone else. It's brilliant.

Even if you don't feel you are the 'creating guide person', you can still browse other people guides based on your personal interest, and if you don't have an iPhone, you can do it from the website - it is pretty amazing to see guides from all over the world about so many topics. And surprisingly they all look good.

On a personal note, I'd love to see more flexibility in the web version, like a quick edit option which is missing right now.

Overall Snapguide is what I like to call: Simplicity at its best service. Download it.

Best Alternative to Picnik.com

In April 19, (2012) Picnik is closing its website completely.
After being acquired by Google in Mar, 2010, the service was active for two years, and soon will  join Google+. It's good news if you use Google+, but probably bad news if you don't. I was, and still using Picnik editor constantly to improve pictures and screenshot, so of course I just had to find good alternative. Surprisingly, Befunky does the job just fine. In fact, it has more tools and filters than Picnik ever had, and you get a lot more for free. If you never used it before, you should definitely give it a try.

Befunky has a long list of edit features where you can crop, rotate, resize, sharpen, and just about every filter you can think of to make your photo look amazing. You can than save it, share it, print it, and all of this before you even signed up to the service.

On top of everything, Befunky has a long history of applications for pictures (mobile included), this is their specialty. It is a reliable service, with very easy to use editor, tons of options (really, never seen so many on one service), and most of it is free - Can't think of any reason why not using them as your primary photo editor.
